3.52pm: Cats 112 - Kangaroos 108

JIMMY Bartel sealed the deal for Geelong winning a free kick and 50m penalty in the shadows of full time at Etihad Stadium.

Bartel made no mistake from the goal line giving the Cats the 112-108 lead with 30 seconds to play.

Kangaroos defender Nathan Grima crashed into the back of Bartel about 25m from goal giving away the free kick.

But it got worse for the Roos who then kicked the ball clear of the pack forcing the umpire's hand into awarding the additional penalty.

3.31pm: Cats 103 - Kangaroos 101

NORTH Melbourne is out on its feet and Geelong is making the Kangaroos pay for it with Josh Caddy putting the Cats in front.

The Cats have dominated the second half despite Kangaroos forward Lindsay Thomas slotting five goals. Drew Petrie has been hardly sighted since kicking four goals in the first half.

James Kelly and Joel Selwood have lifted the intensity through the midfield while Paul Chapman again looks dangerous inside the arc.

3.10pm: Cats 80 - Kangaroos 95

THE stage is set for a cracking final quarter with North Melbourne leading Geelong by 15 points.

The Cats exploded in the third quarter with the first four goals to cut the margin to 10 points before North piled on three of its own.

Geelong again hit back with Tom Hawkins and Paul Chapman kicking goals to put the Roos on the back foot in the shadows of three quarter time.

2.52pm: Cats 60 - Kangaroos 76

GEELONG is all of a sudden 10 points down after withering 10 minutes of play to open the third quarter.

The Cats piled on four unanswered goals to slash 35-point half-time margin to pieces with Allen Christensen, Steve Motlop, James Podsiadly and Tom Lonergan hammering home the fight back.

2.25pm: Cats 40 - Kangaroos 75

A LATE goal to Allen Christensen has kept the Cats within striking distance of the rampaging Kangaroos at Etihad Stadium.

North had outscored the Cats five goals to one before Christensen clunked a strong contested grab 35m out on a slight angle.

The small forward made no mistake in the shadows of half time.

Kangaroos forward Drew Petrie has taken his tally to four goals while Lindsay Thomas has two.

Skipper Andrew Swallow is the most dominant midfielder on the ground with 17 disposals to the main break including six clearances and three inside-50s.

Meanwhile, it's Geelong's stars James Kelly, Jimmy Bartel and Joel Selwood left to do all the grunt work at the stoppages.

Kelly and Selwood have 12 disposals apiece while Tom Hawkins slotted two goals in the half.

North Melbourne is easily winning the stoppages 32 hit outs to 17 and 26 clearances to 18.

2.05pm: Cats 26 - Kangaroos 63

DREW Petrie has broken the match open with two goals in a minute to set up a commanding Kangaroos lead over Geelong.

Petrie clunked a mark 50m out to slot his third in fine fashion before taking another strong grab on the goal line about 30 seconds later.

Liam Anthony then added salt to the Cats' wounds with cracking goal on the run to make it a 63-26 game.

But it's not all good news for the Roos with skipper Andrew Swallow off the ground with medicos assessing tightness in his leg.

1.52pm: Cats 25 - Kangaroos 44

NORTH Melbourne has a handy break on Geelong at quarter time at Etihad Stadium.

The Kangaroos outscored their rivals seven goals to four in a fast-paced term with spearheads Drew Petrie and Tom Hawkins the chief destroyers with two goals apiece.

Nathan Grima leads allcomers with 10 disposals while Ryan Bastinac is on 45 SuperCoach points.

Jimmy Bartel and Corey Enright have been the pick of the Cats with 13 disposals between them.

The Kangaroos dominated the stats categories in that quarter leading clearances 14-7, marks 46-6 and rebound-50s 12-3.

Todd Goldstein is winning the ruck battle so far leading the hit outs 16-9.

1.27pm: Cats 12 - Kangaroos 13

GEELONG young gun Josh Caddy has inspired his teammates with screamer at half forward sparking the Cats second goal.

North Melbourne drew first blood with Drew Petrie making the most of his opportunity in front of the big sticks early in the quarter.

But the Cats responded through Steven Motlop and then Joel Selwood, the beneficiary of a free kick deep in the pocket.

After kicking the classy goal, Selwood disappeared down the players' race with two Cats medicos.

He looked to be moving freely.

Pre-game

Both teams go into the match unchanged with North Melbourne opting for rebounding defender Ben Jacobs as its substitute.

The Cats on the other hand have taken a different approach with small forward Matthew Stokes being given the substitute duties for the match under the roof at Etihad Stadium.

It will be the second time these two sides have met since taking part in ground breaking pre-season match day simulation training together at Simonds Stadium.

Geelong defeated North Melbourne in a tight contest during the third round of the NAB Cup with veteran Cat Paul Chapman the difference, kicking three goals in the final quarter.

Kangaroos assistant coach Brett Allison said both teams kept their "cards close to their chests" during the pre-season work outs.

"Pre-season sessions with Geelong worked really well. (They were) good for both sides," Allison told Geelong's K Rock radio station this morning.

Allison said the Kangaroos would be looking to improve their attack on the contest after last week's disappointing loss to Collingwood.

"Tackling and ball use (are the) most important areas of improvement against the Cats."

Meanwhile, Allison said hyped Kangaroo Majak Daw is being rated as a forward and must go past marking targets Lachie Hansen, Robbie Tarrant and Drew Petrie to earn a spot in the best 22.
